Pacific 360 Parasol in Natural on a terrace

How to Choose the Right Parasol for Your Terrace

Key takeaways

  • We stock two parasol styles: the Pacific 360° Parasol (€719) and the Hawaiian Parasol (€269), each in Natural or Black.
  • Choose a parasol by the area you need to shade, not just the size of your table.
  • As a guide, a canopy should extend around 60cm beyond the edge of the table or seating on every side.
  • Think about how the sun moves across your terrace through the day and the seasons, including the lower autumn and winter sun.
  • Always close your parasol in strong wind and use a base heavy enough for its size.

The right parasol for a Spanish terrace is one that shades the area you actually use at the times you use it, is anchored securely, and suits the style of your furniture. We offer two parasols in our range, the Pacific 360° Parasol and the Hawaiian Parasol, each available in Natural or Black, with prices from €269.

This guide explains how to choose between them, how to size and position a parasol, and how to keep it in good condition. You can see both styles on the parasols collection page.

Which parasols do we offer?

Pacific 360° Parasol

Pacific 360 Parasol in Natural shading an outdoor terrace

The Pacific 360° is our premium parasol, available in Natural and Black. It is currently €719, reduced from €799. It is the one to consider if you want to shade a larger lounge or dining area.

Hawaiian Parasol

The Hawaiian Parasol is our more affordable option, available in Natural and Black. It is currently €269, reduced from €299, making it a practical choice for a single dining table, a pair of sun loungers or a balcony.

For canopy sizes and full specifications, see each product page or ask our showroom team.

Pacific 360° or Hawaiian: which should you choose?

Parasol Price Colours Good choice for
Pacific 360° Parasol €719 (was €799) Natural, Black Larger lounge and dining areas, a premium look
Hawaiian Parasol €269 (was €299) Natural, Black Single tables, sun loungers, balconies, tighter budgets

Natural or Black: which colour suits your terrace?

Natural suits light, coastal and Mediterranean styles, while Black gives a sharper, more modern look. The right choice depends mainly on your furniture and the colours around it.

  • Choose Natural if your furniture is Ivory, Pearl or features teak, or if your home has white walls and terracotta tones.
  • Choose Black if your furniture is darker, such as Titanium or Slate Grey, or if your home has a contemporary, monochrome style.

What size parasol do you need?

Size your parasol by the area you want to shade, then add a margin. As a rule of thumb, the canopy should extend around 60cm beyond the edge of your table or seating on every side, so people stay in the shade as the sun moves.

  1. Measure the furniture footprint, such as your dining table plus chairs pulled out, or your sofa set plus coffee table.
  2. Add about 60cm on each side to find the canopy size that will keep everyone shaded.
  3. Check your clearance: make sure the canopy will not hit walls, railings, trees or awnings when open.
  4. Consider more than one parasol for long tables or large lounge areas, rather than one very large canopy.

Where should you position a parasol in Spain?

Position your parasol based on where the sun is when you use the space most, not where it is at midday. In Spain, the hottest part of the day and the most-used times often differ, especially for long lunches and evening drinks.

  • West-facing terraces get strong afternoon and evening sun, so position the parasol to block light from the west.
  • South-facing terraces get sun for most of the day, so central placement usually works best.
  • Remember the seasons: in autumn and winter the sun sits lower in the sky, so shade falls further from the parasol than it does in summer. A canopy that shades your table perfectly in July may need repositioning in October.

How do you keep a parasol safe in the wind?

The golden rule is simple: close your parasol whenever the wind picks up, and never leave it open when you are away. Coastal areas of Spain can see sudden gusts, and an open canopy acts like a sail.

  • Use a base that is heavy enough for the size of your parasol. Our team can advise on the right base.
  • Close and secure the canopy at the end of each day.
  • Check the forecast before leaving the house for the day or going away for a weekend.

How do you look after your parasol?

  • Brush off dust and leaves regularly, and clean the canopy with mild soapy water if it gets marked.
  • Let it dry fully before closing it for long periods, to avoid mould and mildew.
  • Store it closed and covered during the winter months if you won't be using it.
