Bruges sun lounger set in Ivory

Sun Loungers, Side Tables & Parasols: Creating a Relaxation Spot

Key takeaways

  • A complete relaxation spot has three parts: comfortable loungers, somewhere to put a drink within reach, and shade you can control.
  • Our sun lounger sets start at €498 (Monaco Sunlounger Set) and go up to the Monaco Daybed at €1,599.
  • The Bruges sun lounger measures 199 × 81 × 52cm, which helps you plan spacing.
  • Leave around 60cm between loungers for a side table and access, and a clear walkway of about 90cm behind or in front.
  • In autumn and winter, position loungers for sun and shelter from the wind, and use a parasol only when you need it.

The best relaxation spot pairs sun loungers with a small table within arm's reach and a parasol positioned for the times you lie out. Get those three right, leave enough space to move around, and pick a sheltered, sunny position, and you'll have a spot you can use from spring to late autumn and on many bright winter days.

Here's how to put one together. Browse every lounger on our sun loungers collection.

Where should the side table go?

Between two loungers, at the head end, is the classic position: both people can reach a drink, a book or sun cream without getting up. If a set includes a table, use that; otherwise, keep any table low and stable, and keep glass well away from pool edges.

  • Gap between loungers: around 60cm leaves room for a small table and for getting on and off.
  • Walkway: keep about 90cm clear along the pool edge or behind the loungers.
  • Pairs or rows: on a long terrace or by a pool, arrange loungers in pairs with a table between each pair.
Hawaiian parasol in Natural

How do you pair a parasol with sun loungers?

Most people want sun on their legs and shade over their face. Put the parasol beside or just behind the head end of the loungers, and move it as the sun moves.

Set-up Suggested parasol Price
One or two loungers Hawaiian Parasol €269 (was €299)
Daybed, or several loungers together Pacific 360° Parasol €719 (was €799)

Both parasols come in Natural or Black. Natural suits Ivory, Pearl and teak; Black suits Slate Grey and Charcoal. Always close a parasol in the wind and at the end of the day.

Where should the relaxation spot go?

  • Sun at the right time: south or west-facing spots get the most afternoon sun.
  • Shelter: a wall, hedge or the side of the house cuts the wind, which makes a big difference from October onwards.
  • Privacy: check sight lines from neighbouring terraces and windows.
  • Level, firm ground: loungers are most stable on paving or decking rather than soft lawn.

Making it work in autumn and winter

Much of Spain still gets plenty of bright days in autumn and winter, and a sheltered sun trap can be warm enough to lie out at midday. Move loungers to follow the lower sun, keep cushions indoors when not in use, and put them out only when the furniture is dry. The Bruges cushion covers are machine washable at 30°C, which makes an end-of-season clean easy.
